About the Artwork

Eleven fearless workmen, casually perched hundreds of feet above New York’s streets, were photographed in 1932 by the daring Charles C. Ebbets (1905-1978) during the construction of Rockefeller Center. Snapped from the 69th floor of the GE Building, Ebbet’s definitively dizzying shot, published in the New York Herald Tribune, was among his 300 nationally published works. The daredevil Ebbets also worked as a pilot, auto racer, wrestler and hunter, and was prizefighter Jack Dempsey’s official staff photographer.
